Protecting the 2nd Amendment is a GLBT Rights Issue

A matter of life and death before us
We may choose to withdraw
But the enemy will not allow it."

You really are safer if you defend yourself with a gun

Statistically, having a gun ready at hand in case of attack is much safer than not having one. If a woman is attacked and does not resist, she is 2.5 times more likely to be seriously injured than if she resists the attack with a gun. If she resists barehanded or with any weapon other than a gun, she is 4 times more likely to be seriously injured than if she resists with a gun. A man's chances tend the same way, but much less pronouncedly.

Learning how to handle a gun does not make a peaceable person violent

Women and minorities gain the most when laws that allow more citizens to carry guns concealed go into effect…yet the interest groups that exist to represent us are the most vocal in calling for gun control. With these pages, we hope to broaden the discussion on the topics of queer civil rights, 2nd Amendment protections, and self-responsibility. We invite you to research the subject independently and come to your own conclusions.

"But what about…"The following linked pages contain responses to some arguments against self-defense and gun-use preparedness:"But I'm a pacifist."

"It's the police's job to protect me."

"Hate crime laws will change society for the better."

"The 2nd Amendment doesn't mean just anyone can have guns, only that the National Guard can."

"I can trust the U.S. Government... 'It can't happen here!'"

Taking Responsibility

The choice to obtain a gun is not an end to the issue; it is the beginning. A gun is a dangerous tool that can either be well used or misused. It is the responsibility of the user to make sure it is only ever used well and appropriately. To see to that, you'll need proper training in gun safety and practical experience using the specific gun you've chosen. Every discharge of a gun is either intentional or it is negligent. There is no such thing as an accidental shot. As important as controlling the gun while you're carrying it is controlling it when you are not. Safe storage is essential. These are not options. Your life and others' may depend on your knowing how to use this tool.
