Do I need a Permit to participate?
No. The rules vary depending on the location we meet
at.
When we meet in New Hampshire at the Manchester Firing Line Range, no permit is required to participate, provided you have a valid driver's license, are at least 18 years of age, and you do not attempt to transport a firearm loaded on your person within the state of NH. If you intend to rent a pistol from the range (they have a wide variety of weapons to choose from) please keep in mind that you must use their ammunition.
We are currently working with a gun club in Massachusetts to find a more local shooting range.
How do I know what's going on with the "Pink Pistols"?
Simple, you can access this website for updates, but we also
have a mailing list. The mailing list is pinkpistols-request@yahoogroups.com.
The New England mailing list is pinkpistols-ne@yahoogroups.com
When do you meet?
We meet on the second Sunday of every month at 3:00 pm.
Can I purchase a pistol or other firearm?
Sure you can. However, if you live in Massachusetts there
are steps to be taken to make this legal. You must first complete a state
approved pistol safety course. Prices and dates for these courses are available
on the GOAL homepage. You must then fill
out an application with your town/city/municipality for a LTC (License To
Carry). The application fee for residents of Massachusetts is $25.00. This
process can take as little as 2 weeks or as long as 4-6 weeks. Please be
aware that the requirements for obtaining this permit are strict and thorough.
A background check is done to ensure that you have never been convicted of
a felony or been found a habitual drug user or been committed to a mental
institution or been found to be mentally ill by a doctor. If for any
reason you feel you may not qualify for your permit due to any of these reasons
or you are unsure, please call your local police department before spending
the money on the pistol safety course. In New Hampshire this process is significantly
easier. While the same background check applies for purchasing the pistol
(takes about 20 minutes) no permit is necessary to possess a firearm or to
transport it locked in a box and unloaded in the state of NH. If you wish
to transport your firearm loaded in the state of New Hampshire, please apply
for the New Hampshire Non-Resident permit to carry concealed. These permit
applications can take no longer than 14 days to process, require no pistol
safety course, and can be processed through the mail. Bear in mind. If you
are a Non-Resident, you will be required to possess a permit to carry in
your resident state as well. for Residents of NH, the cost is $10.00 and
is filed at your local police department. Processing takes 2 weeks. All of
the above mentioned permits are good for 4 years. (with stipulations depending
on the state, such as "expires on the permit holder's birthday in the 3rd
year from date of issue"). For further information on this process, please
see the NRA homepage.
What kind of supplies will I need?
Most of what you need can be be rented or purchased at the
range. You will need hearing protection, eye protection, ammunition, a pistol,
and targets. hearing protection (large muffs) can be rented for 1 dollar.
You can also purchase ear plugs (inserts) for $.99 at a local gun shop in
Derry. Eye protection can be rented at the range for 1 dollar. If you
wear glasses, the range owners will not require you to rent eye protection,
however we are safety oriented and it might be best if you did double up
with protection that fits over your regular glasses. Ammunition ranges in
cost depending on the caliber. Plan on spending at least 25-30 dollars on
ammunition. Pistols can be rented for 10 dollars for the first pistol and
7.50 for each pistol thereafter. They encourage you to try as many as you
like to really find what's best for you. Every hand and every shooter is
different. Targets range in cost from $.50 to $1.00 depending on the size.
You can print your own targets if you have a computer and printer at your
disposal. Range time in general will cost $10.00 per person per hour. If
you do not wear glasses and will be requiring hearing and eye protection
rented from the range, and do not own your own gun, please plan on spending
in the neighborhood of about 50 dollars.
I've never touched a gun before. How will I know how to shoot it?
Simple. Ask. Well answer any questions you might have about
the firearm you've chosen and how it works. If you've never fired a weapon
before, please let us know in advance. It's better to learn the right way
to load, unload, and fire a weapon, than to learn the hard way.
Why do you meet in New Hampshire, if you are based in Boston?
This is a firing range that is open to the public. We
are interested in finding a location that is located in the Boston area.
If you know of one, please contact us at boston@pinkpistol.org.
